Post-Surgery Rehabilitation in Bangalore done right
Structured recovery after knee replacement, spine, shoulder and fracture surgery. We follow your surgeon’s protocol, at our Vignan Nagar clinic or at your home.
Post-surgery rehabilitation is where the real result of your operation is decided. At Reflect Physiotherapy in Vignan Nagar, we tell every patient the same thing: surgery is half the result, rehab is the other half. A perfectly performed knee replacement can still end up stiff and painful if the rehab is skipped, and a routine fracture fixation can recover beautifully with the right program. Your surgeon repaired the structure. Our job is to restore the function.
Surgeries we rehabilitate
- Total knee replacement (TKR): single or both knees, from day one through to confident walking and stairs
- Hip replacement: restoring safe movement, strength and balance while respecting hip precautions
- Spine surgery: discectomy, laminectomy and fusion, with careful, protocol-led progression
- Rotator cuff repair and shoulder surgery: staged recovery of shoulder movement and strength
- Fracture fixation: after plates, screws, nails or cast removal, for arm, leg, wrist and ankle fractures
- ACL and other ligament reconstruction: covered in detail on our knee pain and ACL rehabilitation page
How post-operative rehab works at Reflect
We never work against your surgeon. Before your first session, we review your discharge summary and your surgeon’s rehabilitation protocol, and we plan your program around those instructions. Every surgery is different, but recovery moves through four broad stages.
Stage 1: Early healing and swelling control
In the first days and weeks, the priorities are protecting the surgical site, controlling swelling and pain, preventing complications like chest congestion and blood clots, and starting the safe movements your protocol allows. Gentle, early movement is medicine at this stage, not a risk.
Stage 2: Restoring mobility
Next, we work on getting the joint moving through its full available range: knee bending after replacement, shoulder elevation after cuff repair, spinal mobility after back surgery. This window matters. Range that is not regained in the early months becomes much harder to win back later.
Stage 3: Rebuilding strength
Muscles weaken quickly after surgery and bed rest. Once healing allows, we load them back up with progressive resistance exercises, balance work and functional training such as sit-to-stand, stairs and walking endurance. This is the stage that turns a healed surgery into a usable limb.
Stage 4: Return to daily life
The final stage is about your life, not our clinic: walking to the market, sitting on the floor, driving, climbing two flights without holding the rail, getting back to work or sport. We finish with a home exercise plan so your gains keep building after discharge.
Cannot travel after surgery? We come to you.
Many patients simply cannot get to a clinic in the first weeks after a knee replacement, spine surgery or major fracture. Our home physiotherapy service brings the same structured rehab to your house across Vignan Nagar, Kaggadasapura, CV Raman Nagar, Malleshpalya, New Thippasandra, HAL 2nd and 3rd Stage, Jeevanbheemanagar and Doddanekundi. Most post-surgical patients start with home visits and shift to clinic sessions once they can travel comfortably.
When should you start post-surgery physiotherapy?
- Your surgeon has advised physiotherapy and you have not started yet
- You were discharged with an exercise sheet but no supervision, and progress has stalled
- Your operated joint is getting stiffer instead of looser
- You are weeks past surgery and still depend on a walker or on family for daily tasks
- Your cast or brace has just come off and the limb feels weak and stiff
- You had surgery months ago and never regained full function
Contact your surgeon immediately if you develop fever, discharge or increasing redness at the wound, or sudden swelling and pain in the calf. These can signal infection or a blood clot and need medical attention before any physiotherapy continues.
Frequently asked questions
Usually within days, not weeks. After knee replacement, walking starts within 24 to 48 hours in hospital. We follow your surgeon’s protocol, and early guided movement leads to better long-term results for almost every procedure.
Yes. We offer home visits across Vignan Nagar, Kaggadasapura, CV Raman Nagar, Malleshpalya, New Thippasandra and nearby East Bangalore areas for patients who cannot travel in the early weeks after surgery.
Most patients walk independently within 2 to 4 weeks and return to normal daily activities by 3 months. Full strength and comfort keep improving up to a year. Consistent rehab is what separates a good knee from a stiff one.
Yes. We follow the operative notes and protocol your surgeon provides, respect every restriction and timeline, and send progress updates when requested. Rehab works best when surgeon and physiotherapist work from the same plan.
Some discomfort is normal when restoring movement after surgery, but treatment is always within tolerable limits and never forced. Skipping rehab to avoid discomfort usually leads to stiffness that is far harder to treat later.
